“Everything To Me” is a song from Doc Jazz’s 2008 album inSURGency, which saw a re-release yesterday on Youtube, with a brand new music video.

The new release, at this moment, remains on Youtube, and will not as of yet appear on other music carriers.

The song is a slow, sweet and funky ballad, focused around synthesizers, drums, and vocals. It has no major differences with the original, so it may sound to some as if it is the same recording.

Music Video

The music video was shot in Dubai, in an area which is popular with both tourists and residents. It mostly focuses on the singer, but also contains some lovely wide shots of iconic locations. We see the songwriter at work, penning this song as he searches out chords on his guitar.

The song itself does not include a guitar. so this is mostly just for the visual. Doc Jazz composes both on piano and on guitar, more or less evenly distributed.

What happened with the Friendzone controversy?

You may recall that when Doc Jazz released the song ‘Friendzone‘ in the beginning of the year, some critical observations by a reviewer caused a bit of a controversy about the song. As people tend to do in this day and age of excessive social media scrutiny, things got a little out of hand. An article in the California Gazette by Natalie Dawson even branded Doc Jazz a “toxic male” on account of the song. The publication refers to Doc Jazz as a “sugar-coated Andrew Tate”.

In sharp contrast, public response to the song in the form of comments on Youtube and elsewhere, was noticeably positive.

As the discussion continued on the Doc Jazz Facebook Page, Doc Jazz insisted that there is nothing misogynist about the song. The discussion went on for about a week, and there was no indication that Doc Jazz lost any fans or followers over the issue.

The Spiderhands Review

During the controversy, music reviewer Spiderhands – who has reviewed Doc Jazz’s work before – was asked for his opinion. In his review video, he makes it very clear that he totally doesn’t agree with branding the song ‘misogynist’. On the contrary, Spiderhands has a lot of positive things to say about the message of the song.

Going forward

The Friendzone controversy is considered settled, although you don’t have to agree with Spiderhands, of course. If you are familiar with Doc Jazz’s repertoire, you will undoubtedly agree that misogyny isn’t on the menu, on the contrary!

Apparently, with the release of Everything To Me, Doc Jazz still has mileage in his song producing tank. There are several other projects awaiting release, so stay tuned!
