It Takes Love – Doc Jazz releases his first non-political music video
For the first time in his public musical career, Palestinian musician Doc Jazz, known mostly for his political songs in support of the Palestinian cause, has released a music video for an entirely new, but non-political song. It is definitely not his first song that deals with something other than the cause, but it is the first time a song of this kind was released with a music video.
In a previous blog post, Doc Jazz had already announced that he felt he should release his focus on political music. It appears now that this feeling has crystallized in a song that is not without message, but has no explicit political content.
The music video has been released on Youtube, and is expected to face some challenges, being that the majority of the fans of Doc Jazz have always focused on his pro-Palestinian songs, many of them even unaware that there are quite a large number of songs in his repertoire that deal with less complex subjects, such as love, or everyday aspects of life.
On his Facebook page, Doc Jazz released the following statement:
Don’t worry – I didn’t give up campaigning for Palestine, nor will I ever give it up. There were always non-political…

The music video shows Doc Jazz in a rainy scene at night, next to a projector screen attached to the wall of a home. On this screen, images are projected that relate to the song’s lyrics, sometimes in a direct and serious way, sometimes in a less than serious, mildly humorist way. Doc Jazz is wearing a raincoat, tie, hat, and – illogically, since it is apparently after sundown – a pair of dark shades.
The music itself is a love ballad, in RnB style, which is somewhat uncommon for the music of Doc Jazz. As usual, all instrumentation is done by Doc Jazz himself, in this case the most notable instrument being the electric guitar that provides subtle but funky licks throughout the song.
The lyrics are projected above the images on the wall-mounted screen, which is unusual in a music video, but it enables the viewer to follow every word of the song. Apparently, even though the message is not political, Doc Jazz still attaches value to his lyrics.
The video can be watched here below, embedded from Youtube. The lyrics have been posted below the video clip. Enjoy!
IT TAKES LOVE – DOC JAZZ © 2015
Not every spark can light a fire
Not every drop can douse a flame
Not every seed becomes a flower
Not every photo gets a frame
Not every star will light the shadows
Not every bird will live to sing
Not every lamb will graze the meadows
Not every prince becomes a king
It takes Love -To make that difference
Because Love – Can make things thrive
The meaning of Love is Existence
For everything needs Love in order to survive
Not every arrow strikes a target
Not every try will reach its goal
Not every rose will reach a lover
Not every song will touch a soul
But every time I see your picture
And every time I hear your voice
The magic is always in that mixture
That’s making me love without a choice
It takes love
To make that difference
Because love
Can make things thrive
The meaning of
Love is Existence
For everything needs Love
in order to survive
There appears to be a common misconception
As we ponder on the choices that we face
While we wander in this world of self-deception
Only Love – can show you – what’s to be embraced
