On October 20, Doc Jazz released his re-recording of the 2008 song “That Melody”. The previous version is listed on his album inSURGency. In two published reviews and one video review, the new track was met with applause. Before we get to Spiderhands’ (see photo) wonderful review video, let’s check out the written reviews first.

Stepkid Magazine

Stepkid’s Anastim Ducray, who has reviewed Doc Jazz releases before: “In addition to the stellar and uplifting vocal harmonies, That Melody features an array of highly impressive instrumentals. These are professional musicians in action, but there’s nothing mechanical about this song. The performances are brimming with positive energy and feel good vibes. That Melody is like a ray of sunshine, guaranteed to brighten your mood. Doc Jazz has done it again.”

Stereo Stickman

Rebecca Cullen is also familiar with Doc Jazz’s work. In her rich and descriptive style, she writes: “… the song’s hook strikes with more of a rhythmically infectious, funk-kissed aura, brightening the room and injecting a clear level of energy and overcoming that’s brilliantly well-placed.”

She continues: “Featuring strong performances on everything from guitar to keys to drums to multiple vocals, the arrangement tips its hat to everything we love and have missed about live music.”

Spiderhands review video

Logan aka ‘Spiderhands’, music reviewer from New Zealand, had some wonderful things to say about the song. He referred to it as ‘the best single he has heard in quite a while’. He seemed especially impressed with Mella Barnes, the backing vocalist on the song, but was equally blown away by the drums of Wim de Vries, and the percussion of Eddie Conard.

He had something nice to say about each of the musicians involved in the track, and was quite charmed by the team spirit that is tangible in the ‘colorful’ music video.
