Three new songs by Doc Jazz (videos included)

Songs keep on coming! Over the past few months, Doc Jazz has again been using his free time to produce some new releases. For those who are very familiar with his music, it may be somewhat of a deja vu experience.

The three new songs aren’t actually new, but remakes of previously released songs. Doc Jazz dug back into his old song repository, and picked out a few songs that were written around 2005 – 2007. They were given a makeover, and you will find them here in this post!

It sure has been a while since “Twenty Twenty“! This was definitely one of Doc Jazz’s most successful (truly) new releases. If you haven’t checked it out, you should! The other major release in 2020 was “That Melody“, which featured an array of brilliant musicians in session jobs, have a look at that one too!

Say It: The Remix

The first of this new series by some definitions qualifies as a “remix”. The song “Say It”, which was originally written as a piano ballad in 2006, was re-released in 2013, in the same format. The 2013 recording was a new performance, but with a better vocal take.

This new 2021 release uses (mainly) that same lead vocal, but remixed into a completely different approach to the song. This is a purely electronic format, but it adds synths, synth drums, bass, and backing vocals, giving the song a completely different vibe, although it still is a ballad. Check it out here on Youtube!

Anything You Want

The second release, which came out in the beginning of October, is no remix at all. It’s mostly a more or less exact rebuild of the original, but with a better mix. No material from the original release was used, but it was completely re-recorded from scratch.

It’s a love song, but in contrast to the previous one, this has a solidly positive vibe. Some mistook it as a celebration of materialism, but they missed the point. It is actually a celebration of true commitment. As is the case with all Doc Jazz love songs, they pay homage to the classic concept of “True Love”, which is painfully missing from most songs released into the mainstream charts of the 21st Century.

It’s not exactly a ballad, as it has a strong rhythmical component, and a punchy, uplifting vibe, tuning in to the meanings of the song itself. Check out the lyrics video here below!

Whisper Of Your Smile

Last, but not least, this song was released on Youtube only yesterday: Whisper Of Your Smile. This song was originally released in 2006, and went more or less unnoticed. There were some “takers”, but as it wasn’t promoted much, it never went to a wider audience.

This is also a complete re-recording of the song, and though it stays true to the original to some extent, there are some significant changes as well. First of all: the new version uses a real heartbeat as its main drive for the rhythm. Additional rhythm is provided by finger snaps, hand claps, breath sounds and some percussion (mainly conga). Secondly, the song was sped up a little, and beautiful backing vocals were provided by the amazing Mella Barnes.

It’s a rich, warm arrangement, and it is already acquiring some very positive feedback. This lyrics video – for the first time – wasn’t created by Doc Jazz, but by a hired hand. A way to save some time, and to keep the focus on music. Check out the new Whisper Of Your Smile!

What more to expect

As you have noticed, Doc Jazz is on a music making streak again! That’s how it usually goes: months (or more) go by without any musical activity, and then that inevitable return to the studio comes again. Let’s close off with a heads up: a new release is already in the making, so stay tuned!
