Get ready for the upcoming Rising Tide
Close followers of the Doc Jazz Facebook page already know it: Doc Jazz has written and recorded a new song, called ‘Rising Tide’. Although 2014 came close to becoming the first year since 1995 without a new Doc Jazz song, apparently inspiration hit right before the end of the year, and this fate was averted.
However, it appears that the release date will be carried over into the new year. Those who are excited to hear the new song are going to have to be patient a little longer, but the wait will undoubtedly be worth it.
The exact date has not yet been made public, but is expected to be in the first week of January. This time around, the song will be published as a music video before it will be made available on mp3.
So what can we expect from Doc Jazz’s versatile music factory this time? Here are a few bits of information that may satisfy curious minds, or perhaps only serve to increase their curiosity …
Yes, it is a protest song, as is the case with most Doc Jazz songs, and yes, as usual, it has a message pertaining to the struggle for the liberation of Palestine. However, this one approaches the issue from a different angle than the previous music video release, ‘Wake Up’.
Much like Doc Jazz’s well-known song ‘Positive Effect’, this track aims to tap into the power of positive energy, by its upbeat harmonies and danceable groove. Its message is a warning to those who aim to destroy Palestine, that the struggle against this atrocious agenda is quickly expanding into global proportions, and that the racist Zionist entity is rapidly losing credit among the masses all around the world, including in the West. The song expresses the inevitability of the ‘Rising Tide’ of people from all around the global community demanding an end to racism, oppression, land theft and expulsion.
This music video does not contain any gruesome images of war and destruction, but serves to empower the positive vibe of the song. Doc Jazz has a wide variety of musical styles and lyrical content, and this new song does not primarily aim to inform or confront. There are plenty of Doc Jazz songs which highlight the brutality and viciousness of the occupation, so those who are only interested in these aspects of the struggle have already been catered for extensively in other parts of the repertoire.
Rising Tide is a message of hope, determination, and empowerment. If you approach the song release with these expectations, you will not be disappointed! So, what about the song itself?
Doc Jazz’s new track has a funky disco-beat, that in many ways recalls the grooves of the late 70’s, mostly thanks to its tight slap bass and its Nile Rodgers type of guitar licks. The music video enhances this effect by its use of visuals and lighting. The whole production has a ‘retro’ feel to it, although the message is definitely on par with recent developments in the world.
The whole song, including composition, lyrics, performance, recording, mixing, mastering, and the music video is a one-man-product made entirely by Palestinian artist Doc Jazz, as is usually the case with what emerges from his studio.
More information, including the lyrics, will be made available soon, ahead of the song release. Just make sure you stay tuned by following the Doc Jazz Facebook Page, the Twitter account, and the website of the Musical Intifada, and you will remain informed and up-to-date with the developments!
